--Arlington Announces Parade Theme and Dedication for July 4, 2005

The Arlington 4th of July Association will announce this year’s parade theme and dedication at the first General Meeting on Thursday, March 17. The meeting will be held at the George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 Abrams Street, at 7pm in the Community Room downstairs. Applications will be available for the approximately 150 entries vying for a place in the parade.

Brett Bell, Association President, indicates that the theme and dedication are a basis for some of the nostalgic aspects of the planned parade. The theme will be “IT’S STILL a Grand Old Flag” and the parade dedication is a “Thank you” to all those who promote a spirit of patriotism, especially those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the Flag. The “thank you” also goes to Arlington, for contributing to 40 years of successful Independence Day celebrations.

The Grand Marshal will be a company of all the former grand marshals; even President George W. Bush has been invited back this year. Former Texas Governor Bush was Grand Marshal in 1995. Other nostalgic features that hope to be implemented will include a military fly-over and the fire truck ladder arch that were both present at the first parade in 1966. Not so nostalgic, but just as entertaining, will be a number of new participants already planning to participate in 2005.

“The City of Arlington will reach a milestone on Monday, July 4, 2005. This year marks the 40th parade hosted by Arlington to celebrate our nation’s independence,” Brett states. The Arlington 4th of July Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, organization consisting entirely of volunteers and active community citizens that work year-round, with the help of event sponsors, to produce this regional, family oriented event. The Association’s sole purpose is to promote a spirit of patriotism by providing a celebration of USA’s independence. This celebration has grown into the largest Independence Day Parade in Texas. Thousands of spectators and participants come from all over North Texas in order to participate on the parade route that travels from UTA campus to City Hall and back again.

Applications for the parade will be due by May 1, 2005.

February 2004

The Arlington 4th of July Association has announced the Parade Theme
and dedication for 2004. Please join us in Celebrating Arlington's 39th
Annual 4th of July Parade. As in the years past, the streets of downtown
Arlington will be lined with floats, marching bands, clowns and a variety
of other entries. This year's theme is "Of Thee I Sing". Our parade
will be dedicated to those who keep the music coming.

The theme of the parade will exhibit the patriotism in Arlington. We will be celebrating how patriotic music can motivate and uplift our community and keep us upbeat when our country is banded together during trying times. In addition to music, it may honor everything from our founding fathers to the armed forces, and all those things in between that are unique about America that makes one's heart sing.

Because this is a community event, you can expect home-town fun and excitement at this year's parade. There will be over 150 entries in this event. Fun for the entire family. Maybe even more important than the theme announcement is the announcement that our parade will be held on Saturday, July 3rd. Yes, July 3rd, so the community will be better served and participation can be enjoyed by all. The parade is always held on the fourth unless it falls on a Sunday.

The Arlington 4th of July Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, organization consisting entirely of volunteers, active community citizens, that provides Arlington and surrounding communities a venue to promote the spirit of patriotism and celebrate USA's Independence Day. The Association coordinates with the City, UTA and the community over a year long planning period to create one of the most respected, most attended, and most recognized regional Independence Day celebrations.

Come join the 39th Annual Arlington 4th of July Parade by getting your group, organization, place of business, school or just you as an individual to put together a float to show what drummer you march to. Let Arlington see what is music to your ears.

If you would like to submit an entry form to participate in the parade, visit our website at www.arlington4th.com. Applications will be available on line March 9th and can be picked up at the first General Meeting on Thursday, March 11th, at the George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 East Abram, Arlington, TX.
